The Best Hotels in Cooper City, Florida and Fun Things to Do

bigstock-Flamingo-birds-standing-in-lak-206190913.jpgCooper City in Broward County has been named as one of the top 10 best towns for families. Thus, Cooper City appeals to families especially those with little children. With the tagline,  'Something Special', there are many great attractions in Cooper City.

One of the fun things to do in Cooper City is to visit Flamingo Gardens, an 80-acre botanical and wildlife preserve.  You'll not only find beautiful flamingos here, but many interesting creatures housed on the picturesque property.  Providing necessary shelter for injured wading birds, the Aviary shields those that cannot be released back into the wild. Stroll through the large free-fight sanctuary which protects over 45 Florida native species representing over 250 birds.

Also learn about Florida's ecosystems including coastal and sawgrass prairies, cypress forests, subtropical hardwood hammocks and mangrove swamps.

Explore the Birds of Prey center hosting endangered species including falcons, owls, hawks, vultures and Bald and Golden Eagles. Discover amazing habitat specific to panthers and bobcats, otters, turtles, parrots and a 'rookery', known as a breeding ground for seabirds.

The botanical gardens are exquisite and showcase over 3,000 exotic, rare, tropical and subtropical plants. Stroll through the arboretum to view some of Florida's largest trees.  A historic Cluster-fig measures over 54 feet in circumference, at the crown spans 95 feet and rises 102 feet into the air.

From here, explore the well marked hiking and equestrian trails leading to an archaeological site.  Rentals are no longer available on-site so you must bring your own horse.

Other wonderful amenities include picnic shelters, tables and grills, three playgrounds, fifteen acres of lakes/waterways for boating and fishing and a marina.  Fishing licenses are required for those 16 and over and boat rentals are available at the marina on weekends.  Pets are allowed to visit while on leash and the park recommends practicing good common sense and safety, as alligators, snakes and other wildlife live here.

Other fabulous area parks include Brian Piccolo Sports Park and Velodrome and Cooper City Memorial Park.  At the sport parks, find a velodrome with a 200 meter sports track and acycling track 333.3 meters in length.  Bikes are available for rental at the park.  If you enjoy inline skating try out the track (and note that waivers must be signed) run the well-marked trails, or play 9 holes of disk golf.  There's plenty of picnic tables, athletic fields and open spaces to enjoy your day.  Bring Fido or Fifi, and keep your pooch on a leash that is 6 feet in length of less.

Cooper City Memorial Park located at 9001 SW 51st Street is more of a passive park.  Situated on 2 acres, there are benches and a gazebo available.  Bring along a blanket and picnic lunch, a good book or a Frisbee, ball or bubbles to entertain your kiddos.
