The Best Hotels in Davie, Florida and Fun Things to Do

bigstock-Flamingo-Awesome-flamingo-outd-155980916.jpgDavie is located in in Broward County within the Miami Metropolitan area. A thriving community, Davie is also a college town with 7 campuses of universities and colleges serving South Florida.

With its neighboring cities and towns, Davie has its own list of attractions and must-visits. Take time to visit Flamingo Gardens, Bergeron Rodeo Grounds, and the Young at Art Museum.

While the flamingos are quite attractive and interesting to view at Flamingo Gardens, there are many other incredible animals housed on the scenic property.  The Aviary provides shelter for wading birds who have been injured and cannot be released back into the wild. Stroll through the 25,000 square foot free-fight sanctuary protecting over 250 birds representing 45 Florida native species.  Also learn about five of Florida's ecosystems including mangrove swamps, subtropical hardwood hammocks, coastal prairies, sawgrass prairies and cypress forests.

You'll also find habitats specific to otters, black bears, panthers and bobcats, along with areas designed for turtles, a parrot aviary, the flamingo pond, and a 'rookery', which is also known as a breeding ground for seabirds.

And that's just the start of what's here.  Explore the botanical gardens featuring over 3,000 rare, exotic native, subtropical, and tropical plants.  The arboretum features some of Florida's largest trees including the well-known Cluster-fig tree rising 102 feet, spans over 95 feet at its crown and measures over 54 feet in circumference.  Enjoy a children's garden, butterfly and hummingbird garden, and several well-maintained flower gardens.

Ride the tram into 50 acres of a rainforest and natural jungle, once settled by the Seminole Indians.  See a variety of stunning views including wetlands, a hardwood hammock and tropical fruit tree groves.  Don't miss it!

Beregeron Rodeo Grounds

Founded in the early 1940's as a rodeo arena, the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds is also among the main attractions in Davie.  The facility located in the Western-themed downtown area is now purposed as a multi-cultural center, featuring concert artists and holding horse, dog, air boat, automotive, and other shows drawing families from outside the area.  The facility can seat up to 5,000 people and is available for rental year-round

Young at Art Museum

bigstock--177607525.jpgAnother fun thing to do in Davie is to visit the Young at Art Museum.  Established in 1986 as a 'museum without walls', the mission of the art museum was to fill a void for schools lacking children's art programs.  Through generosity of local supporters, fundraising auxiliary, scholarships, and grants, a state-of-the-art 55,000 square foot structure to house the YAA Museum finally came to fruition in 2012.

Today the facility offers multiple exhibits and programs including Kids Night at the Museum, art camps and workshops, parties, field trips, and has dedicated children and teen spaces.  Dine at the onsite cafe and be sure to stop into the gift shop to pick up a memento of your visit.
