The Best Hotels in Maitland Florida, and Fun Things to Do

bigstock-Endangered-Gopher-Tortoise--F-124838870.jpgWithin moments of Orlando, Maitland is a quaint Florida city with more nature-made beauties than man-made wonders. Sure, there are a few museums and a cool arts scene, but most of the best things to do are outdoors—which equals fun for families, nature lovers, and adventurers.

Florida is home to a slew of natural wetlands and marshes— several of which you can find in and around Maitland. Of course, with wetlands comes the creatures that live there, such as gators, big snakes, and ginormous turtles. So, admire and have fun but use caution and common sense when stepping into this natural terrain.

As aforementioned, Maitland is within minutes of Orlando. Therefore, many travelers find it easier to avoid the tourism in Orlando by rooming in Maitland in the evenings, then snagging a shuttle bus to big-time attractions outside of the city in the daytime.

For fun geared more towards nature and sunshine, the Kraft Azalea Park is a lakefront place to picnic, walk, and simply ponder the beauty around you. One of the most-visited Maitland parks, this one sits on 5 acres of gorgeous forests and nature paths, complete with rest benches, dog-walking trails, and huge Cypress trees. The Exedra Monument is seated lakeside, allowing visitors to peruse the structure at their leisure. Guests cite this park as being a great place for nature photography, or kayak and canoe send-offs.
