Visiting the Everglades soon?  Stay in Florida City!

shutterstock_615184091Florida City is settled in the suburbs of Miami, with South Florida as the backdrop, complete with palm trees, sun-drenched skies, and lots of things to do and see. The area is family-friendly, and has been rebuilt since Hurricane Andrew struck in August of 1992. The architecture, like the local families, is strong and steadfast, lending to the reliable, positive atmosphere within the town.

Coral Castle is an amazing must-see for locals and travelers alike. The gardens feature tons of coral, hand-carved into wondrous artworks by one man over a period of decades that began in 1920.

Here are more great Florida City attractions!

shutterstock_386891182Everglades Alligator Farm is a fun, educational attraction, where travelers can take an airboat tour to see alligators, snakes, turtles, crocodiles, and a bunch of other animals. The marshlands are natural and well-kept, with gated areas to keep both animals and visitors safe and separate.

Do your kids love to play on swing sets and monkey bars? Take them to the Mayor Roscoe Warren Municipal Park, complete with multiple playgrounds, climbing rock walls, and spacious pavement for rollerblading and skateboarding. For dinner, you have over a dozen options, and most of the restaurants are locally owned and operated.

shutterstock_146611829The Capri Restaurant, for instance, has been serving up Italian favorites from a family-owned environment since 1958! The customer service, according to TripAdvisor reviewers, is impeccable and friendly, while the helpings are ginormous, delicious, and plentiful.

The red sauce, which goes on everything—from meatballs to spaghetti, is a local favorite, as is the chicken salad, minestrone soup, and shrimp scampi. While there is an in-restaurant bar for beer and wine, the overall restaurant atmosphere is accommodating and very family friendly.

While in this area, visit the Everglades National Park, the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States.
