The Best Hotels in Round Rock, Texas and Fun Things to Do

shutterstock_165259487.jpgSeated next to Austin, Texas, Round Rock is a small town within a ginormous state. Population-wise, the locals number upwards of 20,000, with many of those being descendants from generations-old, small-town families. So, as you can imagine, there are lots of stories and legends to hear in Round Rock.

The city is named for a literal round rock near Brushy Creek, where settlers would make safe crossings across unpredictable rivers in the 19th century. More southern than midwestern, the Texas city has a long history of pioneers, cattle farmers, and corn fields.

And, while there are a dozen fun things to do and see in the inner city, the most exciting elements of Round Rock are outdoor activities, historic sites, and nature-made sights.

Round Rock is perfect for families!

The inner city of Round Rock is home to lots of fun things for families and kids, like new escape rooms, shopping outlets and malls, historic libraries and art galleries, movie theaters, and both nice restaurants and classic diners. There are also a number of spas that offer massages, facials, pedicures, manicures, and a slew of other spa services that relax your body and unwind your nerves.

Or, take a nice nature walk with your family and pup through one of the parks. Be sure you take doggy bags and clean up after your canine companion.

Round Rock is all about family fun, so most of their attractions are kid-friendly and family-oriented. Austin’s Park N Pizza, for instance, is a day trip of fun and excitement. The pizza buffet is a big hit, but you can request custom pies or party portions for your table. The activities include go-karts, bumper boats, an 18-round course of miniature golf, baseball batting cages, rock-climb walls, and an arcade with carnival-style games. There is always a birthday party going on here, and you can call ahead to reserve a picnic area for your family. For adults, the bar area offers great local brews, several televisions, and a sporty atmosphere.

The rock is round, of course, but table shaped in a way that makes visitors think of King Arthur and his knights. Situated in a stream of varying depths, the landmark is an interesting bit of American history. Check out the rock-mounted plaque for information about the site when you get there.

Follow the Creekside to Chisholm Trail Park—a green space with natural waterfalls, shaded picnic areas, and sculpted installations from a local Round Rock artist.

There are a few paths and nature trails, and you can dip your toes in the water of the creek to cool off during those notoriously sweltering Texas summers. Plus, there are informative, educational plaques about several historical sites around Brushy Creek and the wooded areas.

Round Rock is the kind of city you go to for a dose of small-town histories with peaceful charms. As a matter of fact, if you love stories and have the down time, you should mingle with a few locals. You are sure to hear some interesting facts and legends about the city.
